Milana Kovdyk’s Story
Milana Kovdyk is not yet five years old, but she has already faced significant challenges since the very beginning of her life. She was born with a rare genetic disorder called Alagille syndrome, which affects the liver and other organs.
The correct diagnosis was established at an early stage thanks to Dr. Halyna Kurylo. Her professionalism and attentiveness made it possible to stabilize Milana’s condition and begin the necessary treatment in time.
Life for a child with Alagille syndrome is very different from that of other children. Milana requires specialized nutrition and strict adherence to a carefully planned diet. She cannot eat the same foods as most children, as even ordinary products may have a negative impact on her health. Continuous medical supervision, care, and attention are an essential part of her daily life.
One of the most difficult symptoms of the disease is severe, uncontrollable itching, which greatly affects a child’s quality of life, disrupting sleep, rest, and normal development. Fortunately, during 2023–2024, this debilitating symptom was significantly relieved thanks to free treatment with Livmarli (Maralixibat).
In June 2026, Milana’s family once again turned to the SaveLifeKids Ukraine charitable organization for support. Thanks to the assistance of the organization and the company Mirum, Milana was able to receive the life-changing medication she needs to continue treatment and maintain her health.
The family sincerely thanks SaveLifeKids Ukraine, Mirum, and the doctors and specialists of St. Nicholas Hospital for their support, professionalism, and dedication. They are especially grateful for the creation of a specialized center for children with severe liver diseases and rare disorders, where young patients can receive advanced medical care and hope for a better future.
Milana’s story is a reminder of how important early diagnosis, access to modern treatment, and the support of caring people can be. Thanks to these efforts, she now has the opportunity to grow, develop, and enjoy her childhood.
